Life in PKF’s Tax team
We are a diverse group of people who help and encourage each other to grow and develop. Our team often receives the highest number of nominations for the firms Quarterly Values Awards, driven by our own teams voting for their colleagues. We are a sociable team with members participating in charity and fundraising events, to support our firm’s nominated Charities.
Hear it from our people what life is like in the Tax team.
Mimi Chan – Corporate Tax Director
"I’ve been at the firm for over 14 years, progressing from trainee through to director. After qualifying, I spent a year at a Big 4 Firm before returning to PKF. The broad experience and responsibility that had become second nature to me at PKF simply could not be matched by the Big 4, which is why I came back. Since returning, the experiences I’ve had have really helped me grow, including being seconded to a client. There are lots of opportunities to take part in activities across the firm and I’ve run the Hackney Half marathon with my colleagues and spoken about Chinese New Year and what it means to me."
Aarti Vekaria - VAT Assistant
"I joined PKF in August 2021 on the graduate programme in the Indirect Tax team. I knew someone who had worked at the firm who said it was a great place to work, with the clients that you’d expect from a Top 10 firm, but with much more responsibility. I’m really glad that I listened to her! I really enjoy both the autonomy and variety in my day-to-day work. There is a great work-life balance, enabling me to work both at home and in the office; I can also be flexible in completing my weekly hours. I am a member of the Tax Culture and Social committee that organises regular socials for the Tax team; this makes me feel more involved in the team."
Andrew McCready – Private Client Assistant Manager
"Having started as a trainee almost 4 years ago, I gained my CTA qualification in January 2022, and was promoted soon after to Assistant Manager. Since being a trainee, I was provided with significant responsibilities early on and given the chance to work with a range of interesting clients on compliance and advisory projects. The ability to gain this broad experience attracted me to PKF. I have had the opportunity to join the Inclusion & Wellbeing Group, to help shape and support the firm’s initiatives to become a more inclusive and diverse environment. During my time at the firm, a lot of hard work has been put into initiatives such as agile working, mental health and our values, to make this an exciting, rewarding and supportive place to work."
Catherine Heyes – Corporate Tax Partner
"I’ve been at the firm now for over eight years, having joined as a senior manager and being promoted to Partner in 2016. I’m originally from the north-west and I’ve embraced our agile working policy by moving out of London after almost 20 years here; I now work two days a week in the office and spend the rest of my week at home. This would not have been possible without our agile working policy. I’m a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and I also chair our Wellbeing and Inclusion group which has representatives from across the firm. As a group we continue to make PKF a great place to work."
Brenda Hu – Human Capital Manager
"I joined PKF in February 2020 (just before the first Covid lockdown!) after five years with one of the Big Four. What I like most about PKF is the type of work that you undertake and the culture. The work is much more varied than in a larger firm and this means you get much broader experience. You work on a variety of tasks from day 1 and every day is different. PKF offers a great work-life balance and culture which encourages you to reflect the firm’s values. Everyone is super friendly, and the team and firm really help you develop both technically and on soft skills. The firm is also very inclusive and diverse; we celebrate various holidays from different cultures throughout the year. I had the opportunity to speak and educate the firm my hometown, during Diversity and Inclusion week."
